Canada's Past Matters -- Your Voice Counts

Canada's National History &
Cultural Heritage Are Under Attack

Canada's opportunity to know our country’s history and cultural heritage is under threat. The government’s cuts to Library and Archives Canada and to federal bodies that maintain our historical sites and archeological artifacts will have far-reaching consequences for all Canadians. Libraries, archives, and heritage institutions and sites across the country are being devastated by cuts to their budgets, their resources and their services to the public.

But this attack has not gone unnoticed. Academics, geneologists, researchers, librarians, archivists, archaeologists, curators, historians, students and many ordinary Canadians are mobilizing to protest the systematic dismantling of our collective cultural heritage and to spread the message that knowledge of our past is vital to a strong and equitable future.
