Best wishes to the Edmonton Section of the Alpine Club of Canada.
Last Saturday we celebrated the commemoration of a 100-year history of mountain sport, recreation, and heritage. Founded in 1912-1913, it began as an active group of mountain enthusiasts, and, after a century, Edmonton's ACC Section is going strong.
Club members in the 1920s and 30s enjoyed regular hikes near home and trips farther afield to the Rockies and points beyond. It's a little known fact that Edmonton had two alpine huts right here in the North Saskatchewan River Valley. I've been swatting through the bushes and archives to find them.
